Novice Sweep and Novice Sculling

ACR offers beginning sculling (two oars) and sweep (1 oar) rowing classes for adults in the summer.  Details are available under Novice Sweep and Novice Sculling on the Programs page.  Answers to commonly asked questions are available on our Learn to Row FAQ page.

Winter Conditioning

Over the winter, ACR offers the opportunity for novice rowers and those new to rowing the Concept II ergometer to be introduced to rowing technique and proper form on the erg.  The Novice Erg Clinic is an 8 week, 16-session clinic designed to help rowers learn good technique and build experience with indoor rowing workouts.  More information is available on the Programs page.

National Learn to Row Day

Each year on the first Saturday of June, Alexandria Crew Boosters and Alexandria Community Rowing host a National Learn to Row Day Open House. This year's event took place on Saturday, June 1st, 2024 from 9 a.m. to noon.  All are welcome to stop by, no need to sign-up! This is a free event, and will be held rain or shine.

Join crew members and coaches from Alexandria Community Rowing, who will take you on a tour of the Dee Campbell Boathouse, demonstrate the proper rowing stroke on an ergometer (rowing machine), then put your new skills to practice out on the water. You will actually row on the water with members of our crew, accompanied by a coach.

Please wear comfortable, tight-fitting athletic clothing and sneakers. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat or sunglasses. This event is open to all, ages 13+ (*minors will need to have a parent or guardian present).
